AN ADVENTURE OF SPIROU AND FANTASIO
Dupuis
Original illustration created for a bookplate for the Super Héros bookstore
in 2024. Signed. India ink and colored inks on paper
27.5 × 29 cm (10.83 × 11.42 in.)
An illustration remarkable for its simplicity, elegance, and clean lines. The contrast between the vibrant red of Spirou’s period costume and the immaculate white of the background enhances the character. Note the delicacy of the gloved hands and the soft, muted shadow cast, which reinforces the peaceful overall impression.
“I wanted to return to the refreshing spirit of Jijé and Franquin’s Spirou. To recreate that spring-like atmosphere of cheerfulness found especially in the album *Four Adventures of Spirou*, the very first one published in 1950.” O.S.
