In an early version, this cover was less unsettling and less lush. Olivier Schwartz reworked it to arrive at this published version, which combines suspense, richness, and movement. The torn costume sinking rapidly evokes an immediate sense of unease. What has happened to our hero? The sense of unease is heightened by the depth of the sea, emphasized by the rocky cliffs, as well as by the presence of a menacing moray eel. A swarm of fish seems to be converging on the underwater city of Korallion, from which beams of light emerge. In black and white, the result is almost more dramatic than in the color version.
