The case by the Scovill Manufacturing Co., Waterbury, Connecticut, Circa 1860. The brown thermoplastic covers each molded with a military trophy comprised of a pair of crossed cannon barrels flanked by a pyramid of cannonballs, surmounted by a staff entwined with laurel leaves and surmounted by a Phrygian cap, flanked by pennants, all above scrollwork and an anchor, the whole surrounded by a border of medallions with a foliate device at each corner, housing one daguerreotype depicting a husband and wife in an oval mat, and one lady attired in a striped dress, in a rectangular mat, the inside of the front cover printed "GENUINE/ UNION CASE,/ IMPROVED./ Fine Gilt and Burnished/ Hinge./ Scovill Mf'g Co."
