4to. 27 by 22 cm. Scarce sporting plate book with 42 engraved and etched plates with rich, deep contemporary hand-coloring. Plates of equestrian, foxhunting, horse-racing, shooting, coaching and canine interest. Also featured are depictions of cockfighting, military uniform (cavalry) and then, curiously, some Middle Eastern costume and scenes (sickle combat, etc.). Plates are dated 1820. Schwerdt 1: 21. No reference in Tooley or Abbey. Original title label pasted onto front blank. Condition: light rubbing along joints, corners. Small corner bump. Still handsome full red morocco binding. A small amount of light marginal soiling, but plates overall are bright and clean. A lovely copy.
