Sculpture (1) - Earthenware - Testa muliebre - India - Gupta Empire (c. 321 – c. 550 CE)
The face of the female goddess is well-modelled, the eyes are almond-shaped and under curved eyebrows, and meet near the base of the nose, with arch-shaped lips. The elongated ear lobes carry elaborate earrings (one partially missing) and frame the serene-looking face. Part of the hair is gathered in a bun at the top of the head, while the other curls slide freely on the head and rest on the back of the neck. Purchased from a private Italian collection in 2004.
