Sculpture (1) - goddess - Bronze - Green Tara - H48cm - Nepal - 21st century

[ translate ]

Shyama-Tara or Green Tara (literally: green liberator) is a female, peaceful Buddha and bodhisattva of Tibetan Buddhism. The Green Tara is the main form in Mandala of the 21 Taras, which each express different facets of her Buddha activity. Although the Green Tara first appeared in the Buddhist Vajrayana literature relatively late (first Tibetan translation in the 12th century) , she originally originated from an Indian star goddess and was also worshipped from the 3rd century in the Indian Mahayana. Now, the Green Tara is worshipped in Tibetan Buddhism almost like no other bohisattva. The blessing of the 21 Taras is one of the most common sadhanas.
