Description This sculpture made in stooneware of bizen represent Hotei. In Japanese mythology, hotei is one of the Shichi-fuku-jin (“Seven Gods of Luck”) . His name literally means "cloth sack", and refers to the bag that he is conventionally depicted as carrying as he wanders aimlessly. His jolly nature, humorous personality, and eccentric lifestyle distinguish him from most Buddhist masters or figures. He is almost always shown smiling or laughing as in this representation. Here the sculpture is represent as he take a rest with his fan (another attribute of this god) on the bag just atfer carrying during a long road.
