Sculpture Carving Prometheus - Baroque style - Wood - Second half 19th century
In Greek mythology, Prometheus (in ancient Greek Προμηθεύς, 'foresight', 'prospecting') is the Titan friend of mortals, honoured mainly for stealing the fire of the gods on the stem of a cane, giving it to men for them to use and later be punished by Zeus because of this reason. This polychromed wood carving is in the Baroque style that has an added modernist tone, as seen in the photographs. It is very large and it is very well preserved, check the age at the base and in the details of the finishes on the wood. The back keeps a very beautiful polychromy layer in the style of the time.
