The statuette depicts a naked, bearded male figure in the act of performing a dance step. The presence of goat horns on the head and the small tail identify the figure as a drunken Faun in the House of the Faun in the Pompeii excavations.

It is a bronze statue produced with the lost wax technique. it was made from a cast of the original made at the beginning of the twentieth century by a historic foundry in Naples, the Chiurazzi foundry. This foundry also produced reproductions of statues from the main museums, and fed the "souvenir" market for travelers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the travelers of the Grand Tour.
