Sculpture, Niño Jesús de Malinas - 31 cm - Wood

[ translate ]

Baby Jesus of Mechelen.
Belgium, early 16th century.

This beautiful sculpture represents the baby Jesus as Salvator Mundi, iconography widely used in this type of workshops.
Also called Poupées de Malines, these types of sculptures were made with the purpose of being able to be transported and become part of a private altar.
It bears the marks of these workshops on the base; four stripes, in reference to the Mechelen coat of arms that authenticate it as a work from the region.

It has flaws in the polychromy.
