[ translate ]

Bust of Plato in bronze. Copy of a marble statue preserved at the National Museum of Naples.

Plato, Ariston's son of the demos of Collito and Perictione, was an ancient Greek philosopher and writer.

From Pompeii, House of the Faun; a Roman copy after a Greek original dating back to the 1st/2nd century B. C.

It is a bronze statue produced with the lost wax technique. It was made from a cast of the original made at the beginning of the 20th century by the Chiurazzi foundry, a historical foundry in Naples. This foundry also produced reproductions of statues from the main museums, and fed the souvenir market for travellers of the late 19th and early 20th century, the Grand Tour travellers.
