Sculpture, Saint John of Nepomuk - Polychromed wood Folk Statue - Wood - Late 18th century

Bohemian folk polychromed wood sculpture depicting Saint John Nepomucene holding its attributes, a Corpus Christi and the palm leaf of the martyrs. The statue probably belonged to a small German - Bohemian chapel, and the fact that is a folkloric anonymous piece makes it even more interesting since we can imagine this statue being venerated by a family or a small community for hundreds of years in a small town or rural area, hence becoming a pivotal part of their religious rituals. Also, we can see that the anonymous artist was skilled and had great knowledge in how to apply polychrome. The condition of this polychrome is good, with no visible restorations but quite dirty, a cleaning is recommended. There are small parts of the wood missing at the bottom like the tip of the shoes.
