Scuola Francese (XVIII-XIX) - Ninfa addormentata con amorini

[ translate ]

Ancient painting, oil on canvas, dating back to the last quarter of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, depicting a sleeping nymph with cupids.
\r
Refined and evocative work, in which the author demonstrates great talent. The painting appears to be attributable to an artist working in France during the last quarter of the 18th century and plausibly influenced by the works of Louis Jean François Lagrenée (Paris, 21 January 1725 – Paris, 19 June 1805) . Favorite pupil of Charles van Loo, as well as member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, as well as director of the French Academy in Rome until 1787 and then Rector, Conservator and finally Honorary Administrator of the Museum. He died in the Louvre at the age of eighty. His pupil was his younger brother Jean-Jacques Lagrenée known as "le Jeune", and his son Anthelme-François also became a painter.
\r
In good general condition considering the age of the painting, which appears in patina and with light accumulations of dirt in some parts. There are some scattered points of restoration, as well as some light peeling and cracking of the pictorial surface, but nothing particularly significant. There are no conservation problems highlighted. The original canvas, which does not appear to be relined, does not appear to require any intervention. A fine crackle is visible in relation to the era.
\r
Framed in a splendid 19th century frame, which has defects and restorations. We also note a certain fragility relating to the friezes of the same and therefore, despite our maximum commitments during the packaging phase, we point out the possibility that some small pieces may detach during transport.
\r
Measurements of the painting: 74 x 93 cm. Frame measurements: 95 x 114 cm.
\r
Work accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity, as per current legislation.
\r
Shipping via insured express courier and packaging carried out with the utmost care.
