Scuola Francese (XVIII), maniera di Claude-Joseph Vernet - Marina in tempesta con naufragio

[ translate ]

Ancient painting, oil on canvas, from the 18th century, depicting a stormy sea with a shipwreck.

Due to its style and writing characteristics, the painting is attributed to an eighteenth-century author and the illustrative genesis is evident from Vernet's examples. The result is a creation with refined decorative value, well executed and of excellent quality. From a general point of view it is possible to hypothesize that the author was active in the Mediterranean context and the clear French and Vernettian origin remains undoubted, particularly if we think of several of his similar works, while a possible attribution hypothesis is that of Jean-François Hue, French artist present in Rome in 1785 and pupil of Vernet.

In good general condition considering the age of the painting, which appears in patina. There are some scattered points of restoration, as well as some light unraveling and cracking of the pictorial surface, but nothing particularly significant. There are no conservation problems highlighted. The original canvas has an old relining of good workmanship and which does not appear to require any intervention. A fine crackle is visible in relation to the era.

Framed in a splendid 18th century frame, which has defects and restorations.

Measurements of the painting: 74 x 98 cm. Frame measurements: 88 x 114 cm.

Work accompanied by a certificate of photographic authenticity, as per current legislation.

Shipping via insured express courier and packaging carried out with the utmost care.
