Scuola Italiana (XIX-XX) - Villaggio di Campagna

[ translate ]

DESCRIPTION

"Country Village", oil on canvas, 72x. 99cm, datable between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, signed R. Galliani on the bottom right.

The work represents the glimpse of a village or country hamlet near a river. On the left a group of buildings and huts in the typical architecture of the typical places of central Italy, in front of these a large lawn that extends to the rocky banks of a stream. A wooden bridge divides the scene in two, leaving space for the forest on the right. Some hills can be glimpsed on the horizon, while the golden light of a spring day pervades the sky which dominates much of the painting.

The painting's technique and type of brushstroke can be attributed to the Macchiaioli school, which, after its formation between the 1950s and 1960s, continued in some parts of Italy until the dawn of the 20th century. Skilled work, the rendering of the luminous and atmospheric factor is to be underlined, the decorative impact is pleasant.

CONDITION REPORT

The general condition is excellent, the work is intact in all its parts with easily legible original colours. Craquellure homogeneous and consistent with the age of the object. The painting shows traces of conservative restoration, on the reverse it appears to have been relined and reframed with an intervention dating back to the second half of the 20th century.
