Scuola Napoletana del XVII secolo - Verso l'ora nona

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola Napoletana del XVII secolo
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 73_7. 5_78. 5_cm
Painting of the Neapolitan school datable to about the late 17th century, which shows an iconography of the crucifixion already present in some works by Titian, Guido Reni, and Guercino. The three characters at the foot of the cross are typical of this sacred scene, where the Virgin appears in painful contemplation of her Son, the Magdalene is kneeling, and St. John is always represented with a red cloak. Very effective quick pictorial strokes of excellent technique, with beautiful anatomy of Christ and a skilful use of the light coming from the break in the sky, which is a prelude to the darkness that began around Sext (noon) and lasted until three in the afternoon (Nones) , the hour of Jesus’s death according to the Gospels. The work is an oil on canvas. A skilful professional restoration after the relining allowed to restore the antique original colours with minor works. The painting has a beautiful octagonal frame in heavy carved and gilded wood. It has a total size of 78. 5 x 73 cm and 56. 5 x 51 cm the canvas alone. It comes with a certificate of lawful origin from my collection with description of the painting. PLEASE NOTE: for shipments outside the EU, longer and unspecified delivery times must be considered, and the costs of customs clearance shall be borne by the buyer, outside the shipping costs.
