\Artist: (Scuola di) Giovan Battista Salvi detto il Sassoferrato, XVII Secolo
Technique: Olio su rame\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 49_41_5_cm
Antique oil painting on canvas from the 17th century, depicting an evocative Mary in prayer. It can be dated back to the 17th century and it comes from models developed by Giovan Battista Salvi. In fact, there are countless replicas and copies taken from works by Sassoferrato, the collecting success of his representations of the Mother of God in prayer or lost in thought was extraordinary, and it is often difficult to distinguish between an original piece and a copy, considering that many compositions must be referred to the workshop while maintaining remarkable standards. From this point of view, in our case the quality of the image reflects a sustained aesthetic and observing the drafting we can see refined passages supported by firm paint in the characteristic colour range. The analysis of the craquelure also suggests a dating compatible with the period of the artist’s activity and his workshop’s. With a beautiful vintage frame, lacquered and gilded, which has some flaws and defects. In overall fairly good condition, considering its age. There are some small scattered restorations and some slight peeling of the surface, but nothing truly relevant. There are no conservation problems, the copper has no noticeable breakages or defects. Fine craquelure consistent with the painting’s age. Copper size: 38. 5 x 31 cm. Frame size: 49 x 41 cm. With photographic certificate of authenticity, in accordance with the current law. Shipping via insured express courier, packaged with the utmost care.
