Scuola di Jacopo Bassano (XVI secolo) - Parabola del buon Samaritano

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola di Jacopo Bassano (XVI secolo)
Technique: Oil on board\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 78_65. 5_5_cm
Antique painting from the 16th century, oil on wooden panel depicting the Parable of the Good Samaritan. The work derives from the panel painted by Jacopo Bassano around the mid-16th century and preserved at the Pinacoteca Capitolina in Rome, the first of a series of works with the same subject that Bassano composed. In his father’s footsteps, his son Francesco then developed the biblical-pastoral subject, often copying it directly, as in the case of Jacopo’s Good Samaritan preserved at the National Gallery in London of which a copy on canvas by Francesco is known (gallery of the castle of Prague) . In the large and prolific workshop created by Jacopo, in fact, starting from the models of the founder, his sons Francesco and Leandro and their collaborators replicated and reworked subjects with proven frequency. The excellent execution quality and the easy and loose strokes of this work seem to direct the search of the author towards an artist who certainly knew the master’s works very well. From the point of view of the pictorial technique, you can see passages and strokes showing a probable creation in the workshop, and you cannot exclude that it may be precisely Francesco or Leandro. Even the analysis of the craquelure and the panel itself, compatible with the period of activity, drives the author’s research towards a painter working in the workshop itself. In fairly good overall condition, considering the age of the painting, you can see a few scattered restorations and some peeling of the pictorial surface, mainly on the background. There are no preservation issues, the panel is in good condition, there is only a repair along one side of the panel itself and a break near a corner (about 1. 5 x 1. 5 cm) . For greater stability, the panel is also supported on the back by two horizontal wooden laths. With a nice box frame, which has slight defects and missing parts. Panel size: 59. 5 x 49 cm. Frame size: 78 x 65. 5 cm. Work supplied with certificate of authenticity on photo, in accordance with the current law. Shipping via insured express courier, packaged with the utmost care.
