Important Ancient painting oil on canvas XIX Century "Theft at the Convent" Signed: Size: 58. 5 X 50 cm in a coeval frame Rare and fun painting with an unusual theme. The scene represents two brigands fleeing after having carried out a theft in a convent of nuns. The same nun chases the thieves with a broom, a second nun fainted on the ground perhaps due to the excitement of the moment. A third nun puts her hands to her face in desperation. On the right, the carabinieri order a halt to the brigands. A goliardic scene of everyday life. The painting is signed and can be dated to around the mid-nineteenth century. It bears a signature on the left. The work is on the first canvas and the frame is original and coeval, recently re-gilded. Coming from a private collection of sacred works Period: around 1830-1850 In good condition of conservation With certificate of authenticity
