Scuola italiana (XVII) - Madonna con Bambino

[ translate ]

This Madonna and Child dates back to the early 17th century. It is one of the so-called Madonnas of Constantinople, which, as regards iconography, imitated some aspects of Byzantine icons.
The oriental monks, after the Turkish conquest of Constantinople, began to bring oriental icons to the West starting from 1453.
This oil on canvas is large in size and comes with the original partially restored frame, which is free.

The dimensions of the painting are considerable: 103cmx70. 5cm with the frame, and 90cmx57cm without.

It is an oil on canvas, probably from the Florentine school. It is characterized by the great expressive intensity and by the volumetry and plasticity of the figures, as well as by the quality of the hands and faces.

A tear is in the background and to the right of the child, and has been repaired and reinstated pictorially. There are two small tears on the left, still in the background. There are then small pictorial restorations on some points of the painting: on the back of the Child's hand and on the back of that of the Madonna. The images of the Madonna and Child are almost intact. The canvas is tense. The painting does not need to be cleaned.

Cannot be shipped to the United States of America.

Shipping will take place via the Mail Boxes service.
