Historical-critical information: This work is inspired by the painting by Gerard David already in the Wetzlar collection in Amsterdam, of which several replicas with slight variations are known (see Miegroet 1989, pp. 299-300) , all on wood and in dimensions almost identical. This kind of painting, intended for private devotion, had, thanks to David, great popularity in Antwerp after 1510, as evidenced, among others, by the small pictures of a similar subject made by Quinten Metsys around 1529. The panel has been resized in the past (reduced thickness) and has a slight warping and a conservative restoration is recommended Work from a Private Collection, accompanied by Certification pursuant to art. 64 D. L. 22 / January / 2004 n. 42 Code of Cultural Heritage (Italy) The work will be properly packaged and sent by courier with insured package.
