Decorative seascape, referable to the Neapolitan school, from the last part of the 18th century: oil on canvas.
In the proposed composition the naturalistic force of the sea is described with theatrical representation.
The dark and stormy clouds in the background ripple the sea while two sailing ships in the waves approach the shore, with their sails unfurled, to land on the safe mainland. The euphoric and foamy movement of the water enlivens the immobility of the rocks, while a mountain, in the background, is surrounded by a light in the sky which heralds the calm after the disturbance.
The beauty of the fleeting storm, which underlines the vigor of nature, finds a poetic declination in the figure of the customer who sits serenely and raptly observes the horizon. On the adjacent promontory stands a church, a reassuring symbol of shelter in view of the imminent storm.
The dosage of chiaroscuro masterfully increases the emotional tension of the landscape, the contrasting colours, applied with cursive and material brushstrokes, enhance that dynamism that leads the observer to search for descriptive details in the painting.

The crackle brings great charm to the image.
The painting was recently relined and reframed.
When compared with the UV lamp, minimal chromatic compensations are well camouflaged in the pictorial application.
