Scuola napoletana del XVIII secolo - Madonna con bambino in gloria con arme gentilizio e scena di battaglia sullo sfondo

[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola napoletana del XVIII secolo
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 95_4_81_cm
After the War of succession, Philip V's Spain, led by Cardinal Giulio Alberoni, occupied Sardinia and Sicily, thus triggering the war of the quadruple alliance (1717) which saw England, France, Austria and the Netherlands as opponents of Spain, and ended three years later with the defeat of Philip. Our painting probably refers to this historical period, with the Madonna and the child Jesus who, from the top of a sky inflamed by sunset, protect the Bourbon fighters in battle, while on bottom left appears the royal coat of arms of Philip V. The detail of the Virgin indicating with her right hand the coat of arms and of the child Jesus waving a Bourbon banner is a very likely indication of an important commission in the court. The painting is restored, relined and re-stretched. Size including the frame: 95 x 81 cm; canvas only: 83 x 69 cm. The professional restoration and cleaning have brought out the original colours of the work while maintaining the old patina. With a certificate of lawful origin from my collection. Please note: the packaging will be very accurate and secure, however the frame is offered as a gift and we are not responsible for any damage that may be caused by transport. Outside the EU, shipping times will be longer, and the unspecified customs fees shall be borne by the buyer.
