Scuola romana (XVIII) - Paesaggio con castello e montagne

[ translate ]

Roman school, 18th century
Landscape with castle and mountains
Oil on canvas, 151 x 101 cm

The painting in question here represents a large glimpse of a rural view referable to the years following the second half of the 17th century and in particular to the Roman context.
Dominating the center of the composition is a mountain dominated by a turreted complex surrounded by shrubs of various heights, probably the home of a lord who owned the neighboring land. Going down the hill, we can glimpse a short stretch of dirt path, at the end of which we notice a couple of characters, one on the ground and the other standing, flanked by a small brick building. The two are on the banks of a small river, whose ripples the artist also describes through light and subtle highlights, which runs through the landscape and occupies the lower part of the painting, dominated by the thick, cubic forest. Standing out in the foreground, on the right, is a long tree trunk whose sections twist together up to the height of the foliage. This element allows the painter to create continuity with the background of the sky and the rest of the scenery: always on the right, next to the central massif, there is another hill with a tower and a small house from which the smoke from the lit fireplace comes out, which, thanks to the contrast with the mountain with bluish tones more strongly, without getting lost in the horizon. The same solution is adopted for the left part of the canvas, where a village on the plain rendered in very light tones stands out strongly compared to the large mountain that dominates it. In the vast sky dominated by a pile of clouds that is passing exactly above the central massif, the color tones already used by the artist for the other elements of the composition are taken up, an expedient that allows the entire view to be skilfully harmonized.

For paintings purchased abroad: after payment the procedure to obtain the export license (ALC) will be started. All antiques sent abroad from Italy need this document, issued by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The procedure could take 3 to 5 weeks from the request, therefore, as soon as we have the document the painting will be sent.
