[ translate ]

\Artist: Scuola romana del XVII secolo
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 104_6. 5_85_cm
St Philip Neri is famous for having gathered around him a group of street children, bringing them to liturgical celebrations and entertaining them by singing and playing without distinction between boys and girls, in what would later become the "Oratorio" or parish youth club; considered and proclaimed as a true congregation by Pope Gregory XIII in 1575. For his cheerful disposition he received the nickname of “the Saint of Joy”. Great masters such as Guido Reni, Domenico Zorzi, Carlo Maratta and many others have dedicated paintings to his figure, portraying the saint in ecstasy. Our 17th century painting of the Roman school shows St Philip Neri with his hands raised to heaven, while he has a vision of angels flying above him. Dimensions: 104 x 85 cm including the beautiful wooden frame with gold leaf, canvas only 89. 5 x 70 cm. Professional restoration and cleaning has brought out the beautiful original colours of the work, and the work is accompanied by a certificate of legal provenance from the seller’s collection.
