Seat of Wisdom (Sedes Sapientiae) Carved and polychromed wooden sculpture. Castile. Romanesque. Late 12th – early 13th century._x000D_
Following the Romanesque canon, Mary is facing forward, seated on her throne of glory, crowned and wearing a short veil. The Child sits in the centre on her knees, giving blessing with his right hand while holding the Holy Scriptures in his left. The faces of the Madonna and Child are finely sculpted and their expression is severe. _x000D_
