Seat of wisdom (Sedes Sapientiae). Carved, gilded and polychromed wooden sculpture. Romanesque. Mid 12th century.
Magnificent sculpture depicting the Virgin Mary on her throne of glory, dressed as a queen, being herself a throne for the Christ Child, who is giving blessing with the right hand while the left hand holds the Holy Scriptures. Both face forwards and have a serene expression. Mary is crowned and wears a richly decorated veil. Her shoulders are covered with a red cloak under which she wears a green and gilded tunic. Part of the polychrome is from the 16th century. Mary´s hands are missing.
