Sebastiano Conca (Gaeta, 1680 - Napoli, 1764) Attributed to
Oil on canvas
cm. 105x39,5. Framed
The painting is a preparatory modello for a large-scale composition, probably a church ceiling fresco that remains untraced and may never have been executed. Its fluid brushwork and dynamic composition reflect the influence of Solimena and De Mura, as well as Garzi and Baciccio, reinterpreted in a more pronounced Rococo style. Giancarlo Sestieri accordingly attributed the work to Sebastiano Conca, particularly accomplished in the execution of preparatory studies.
Provenance:
W. Apolloni Gallery, Rome; private collection, Rome.
