An 8vo book entitled Legion Airs: songs of Over There and Over Here, by Frank Peat & Lee Orean Smith, 1932, published by Leo Feist Inc., N.Y. with illustrated boards, with inked inscription on front end paper reading: To our National Commander Louis A. Johnson With best wishes for a most successful year from one of your million and a quarter privates in the ranks. Frank E. Peat, November 17, 1932. ink drawing of dough boy head in helmet with inscription. Frank was the principal author of this 144 page book of WWI songs. Louis A. Johnson was commander of the American Legion from 1932-33, was an Army Captain and saw combat in France at Meuse- Argonne during WWI. Later hen into politics and F.D.R. Assistant Secretary of War from 1937-1940 and Secretary of Defense under Harry S. Truman, 1949-50. Condition spine faded and chipped, else VG.
