Sefer Sod HaShem – With Pinkas of a Mohel from Germany. Vienna 1837.

Sefer Sod HaShem with Sharvit Zahav and Sefer Brit HaShem, the order of circumcision with laws and interpretations including the order for Pidyon HaBen, and Birkat HaMazon for circumcision. By Rabbi David of Lida, Av Beit Din of Amsterdam.

The present copy includes an additional, handwritten title page that contains the dedication: "Sefer Sod HaShem including all the laws, the prayers and the requests for circumcision. In the year 1862. Made for Rabbi Nissan, son of Rabbi Uri Freudenburg, z"l, by Aharon Moshe Yael [Yoel] of Posen".

After the hand-written title is an additional hand-written page with Chapter 6 of Psalms.

Between page 20 and 21 a hand-written page was inserted with a MiSheBerach for the newborn and mother, and on the other side Psalm 126.

Originally bound with many blank pages, to be used as a circumcision register. 9 of these pages were indeed used by a mohel as a pinkas, with handwritten notes on circumcisions performed by him between the years 1850-1873 in various towns and villages in Germany. Apart from this, the register mentions more place names and many genealogical names and details.

There are wine stains on the book, showing that the book was used in many ceremonies.

Vienna, 1837.
[2], 20, [1], 21-36, [9] pages. 16.5 cm. Very good condition.
