Sergeï Frolov (1924-1998) (Attribué à) - Saint-Pétersbourg, canal du parc de l’île Elagin au printemps

[ translate ]

Oil painting on strong cardboard. Signed lower right in Russian Фролов (Frolov)
Hardly legible signature justifying the words “attribution to”
From a private collection, the painting is in excellent condition. Gilded wood frame with lots of relief and depth (corner and facade wear) .

Here, a landscape of the Saint Petersburg region, the painter's favorite theme
The impression of harmony and luminosity that emerges from this representation of the channel of the island of Elagin is remarkable. The artist really makes us "enter spring" through the perspective which goes beyond the distant footbridge, the grazing light on the banks, the path bordering the trees with their foliage bursting with shades and the fresh colors with marked contrasts . The clouds, reflected in the clear water of the canal, bring with their whiteness and aerial lightness a lyrical dimension to the landscape, in the pure style of the painter.

Sergei Kuzmich Frolov was born in 1924 in the village of Baklanka, and died in 1998 in Saint Petersburg.
Graduated from the Leningrad Higher School of Industrial Art. (1952)
Member of the Leningrad Union of Artists from 1956
Professor of painting and graphics at the Vera Mukhina Institute (1950s -1970s)

Frolov is best known for his lyrical landscapes of Leningrad (present-day Saint Petersburg) , its suburbs and ancient Russian cities.

Personal exhibitions at the Pushkin Museum-Reserve (1964) and in Leningrad (1972, 1987) .
His paintings and watercolors reside in the State Russian Museum, art museums, and private collections in Russia, Japan, Finland, France, and around the world.
