Serpieri
Serpieri PAOLO SERPIERI DRUUNA Clone (Vol. 8), Bagheera 2003 Original plate no. 30 in semi-direct colors, accompanied by its initial ink sketch. Signed. India ink and colored ink on paper 25 × 35 cm (9.84 × 13.78 in.) First stage: 36 × 29.7 cm Druuna draws inspiration from the spirit of its time: a post-apocalyptic setting close to our own era, a science-fiction universe that owes much to the artwork of Moebius—an influence acknowledged and even embraced by the artist—all developed within the suffocating atmosphere of a distinctly Lovecraftian organic horror. The heroine, scantily clad, navigates a cyberpunk world where her perfect body is constantly threatened, transformed, or exploited. Serpieri stands out from his contemporary peers through a sculptural sensuality that is a far cry from the intellectual and experimental approach of Crepax, or the hedonistic, free, and playful style of Manara—the other two major figures in Italian erotic comics.
