Set 5 Tin, Iron & Matchbox Vehicles

A collection of five toy vehicles manufactured in various materials including tinplate, cast iron, and die-cast metal. The group includes two tinplate friction-motor emergency vehicles featuring lithographed interiors and exterior markings for an ambulance and a fire department chief car. A third tinplate vehicle is a simple push-toy sedan finished in maroon with grey lithographed windows. The collection also includes a red-painted cast iron streamlined coupe with four white rubber wheels. The underside of the cast iron car features an impressed mark reading MADE IN U.S.A. and PATENT PENDING in uppercase characters, followed by additional illegible text. The final item is a red die-cast Volkswagen VW Drag Beetle featuring yellow plastic roof rockets, an interior driver figure with a silver-colored helmet, and a black and white cross decal on the hood. The grey metal underside of the beetle is embossed with the following marks: MATCHBOX, SUPERFAST, VW DRAG BEETLE, MADE IN ENGLAND, 1971, LESNEY PRODUCTS, and NO 15. The two larger tinplate emergency vehicles and the maroon sedan do not bear legible manufacturer marks on their undersides.
