Set of bowls (6) - Pair of "Blackship" rice bowls with extra covers - Porcelain
A fine pair of Imari “Blackship” rice bowls with covers plus two extra covers. The set painted in vivid iron-red, gilt, green and black enamels on underglaze blue with a central cartouche depicting enclosing Dutch three-master at sea, surrounded by a large border with two smaller panels enclosing a similar ship and two faux coats-of-arms, divided by pairs of standing Dutchmen, on a trellis diaper-pattern ground
The reverse decorated in underglaze blue with foliage
Dates to ca. 1900 (Meiji period 1868-1912)
Reference: A bowl with a very similar decor sold at Christie’s for €3. 346 ( See the last picture)
Condition - All six pieces with chips/flea bites to the rims
