Several Soho Pottery Limited Empire Tableware and Multiple English Copper Lustre Jugs.
An assortment of English earthenware tableware by Soho Pottery Limited and a collection of copper lustre jugs. The lot comprises:
A partial set of Soho Pottery Limited tableware in the Empire pattern, featuring three graduated oval platters and a stack of six circular dinner plates. Each piece is decorated with a transfer-printed Imari-style palette of rust-orange and black stylized floral motifs, finished with hand-painted infills and gilded rims. The undersides bear a reddish-brown printed backstamp featuring a central crown symbol surrounded by the text SOHO POTTERY LIMITED, COBRIDGE, ENGLAND, with EMPIRE printed above. The earthenware body displays significant all-over crazing and notable areas of brown staining, particularly evident on the platters.
Three graduated copper lustre jugs of similar baluster form, featuring scrolled handles and wide pouring lips. The bodies are decorated in relief with molded figures depicting a tavern or hunting scene, accented with cobalt blue painted scrollwork around the rims and spouts. The handles and rims show visible wear to the metallic glaze, revealing the dark ceramic body beneath.
A bulbous copper lustre jug with a high, scrolled handle, featuring molded relief decoration of a hunting scene with hounds and deer. This piece is finished in a bright gold-toned lustre without secondary colour accents.
More Information
The Soho Pottery Limited tableware displays significant crazing across all pieces, with prominent brown staining and discolouration to the largest platter and plate undersides (photos 4, 6). The gilded rims show widespread rubbing and wear. The collection of lustre jugs shows wear to the glaze on the handles and rims; a visible chip is present on the base rim of the medium-sized blue-accented jug (photo 5). Minor surface scratches and firing imperfections are present across the lot.
