Shahsavan Long Rug
late 19th century, 315 x 109 cm, South East Caucasus, Moghan
The red field comprises four large rectangular medallions, either white or blue in ground colour, and five considerably smaller octagons with a cruciform interior drawing arranged in pairs between them. The design of the white main border is a double bird’s head vine. This weaving was probably made by a Shahsavan tribal group in the Moghan area.
The rug was owned by a French family for several generations.
Condition
Pile in good condition. Both finishes slightly reduced.
