Shelley Harmony Dripware Rectangular Butter Dish and Cover.

A Shelley Harmony dripware butter dish and cover, manufactured in England. The earthenware set comprises a rectangular base plate and a matching lid featuring a central geometric knob finial. The piece is decorated with a banded drip glaze in shades of blue, transitioning from a concentrated cobalt blue circular sunburst at the top and centre to a light sky blue and cream-white ground. The glaze application results in vertical streaks down the sides of the cover and a radial sunburst effect on the base plate.

The underside of the base plate features a printed green backstamp consisting of a scalloped-edge shield containing the cursive name Shelley, with the word ENGLAND in block capitals below. A small, hand-painted mark in blue glaze resembling the numeral 4 is also present on the base. The interior of the lid contains a small circular firing vent.

More Information

The item is in excellent overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. A small pinhole or firing vent is present on the interior of the lid as a manufacturing feature (photo 3). There are minor areas of light brown staining to the unglazed foot rim of the base plate and localized browning along the interior edges of the dish (photo 3 and photo 4), consistent with age and typical for earthenware of this type.
