Literature: Shepard Fairey’s dystopian imaginings are at once tragic, and irreverently humorous in ‘My Florist is a Dick.’ Bearing a striking resemblance to a Gestapo officer, an imposing policeman dominates the piece. Rather than wielding a truncheon or firearm, the helmeted officer totes a billy club which sprouts a crimson lotus flower. Emblazoned behind his hulking shoulder are the words: “MY FLORIST IS A DICK. WHEN HIS DAY STARTS YOUR DAYS END.” Despite his rather benign weapon, the skeleton face beneath the visor cannot help but to inspire trepidation in the viewer.
