Coleman is a surgeon in private practice at Corpus Christi, Texas. He began sculpting in 1974, when he sculpted a mare given to him by the late actor Audie Murphy. He has brought together his love of art and horses in his sculpture. His work is exhibited in several museums in the Southwest and in private collections. He was recently commissioned by the National Racing Museum in New York to sculpt derby winner Genuine Risk. His work is also in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
