Shield - Skin - Lake Turkana region - Kenya
SHIELD Region of the Lake Turkana, Kenya. First half of the 20th century. Wood and skin. Height: 38; Width: 18 cm (very light damages, visible on the pictures) . The skin was cut into a rectangular shape and is hemmed on the borders. The skin yoke which constitutes the shield is tied with an important series of knots and weavings, on a vertical wooden structure. A grip is placed in the centre of this dorsal ridge, to enable the owner to grab it.
