Short saber - Silver, enamels and steel - Sabre Shan - Burma - Late 19th century

DESCRIPTION Shan short saber, tubular wooden handle covered with worked silver. Its blade, hot engraved, is in fair condition. Beautifully decorated scabbard in pure silver on a wooden core. Rare enamel decoration. Beautiful work, more complex than it seems because it is done entirely by hand with rudimentary tools. Please note, this saber is in very average condition, due to its age and use, it is a very old and rare piece, please pay attention to the photos. It requires deep cleaning. A similar knife is found in the book "Peuples du Triangle d'Or", see photos. Total length, 70 cm, late 19th century. TRAVEL NOTEBOOK BY JEAN DUMOULIN This type of knife was found throughout the Golden Triangle and was an important symbol of the social status of the man who wore it, the money used for it, the quality of the work and the enamels make it must have belonged to an important figure. These knives were made by Shan or Chinese craftsmen. STATE Very average condition, shows traces of its age and use, crack in the silver and lacks (see photos) . Will be carefully packaged, insured shipment and traceable via Bpost.
