Depiction of an evening landscape. On the left is a slope with a waterfall cascading down it. In the foreground is a meadow at the edge of the forest where sheep are grazing. A pair of shepherds dancing to the flute. Behind them a ravine into which the waterfall disappears. Boulders and sunlit landscape can be seen in the background. Further shepherds can be recognised in the distance. A house is enthroned on a hill. The scene is flanked by an oak tree swaying upwards on the right edge of the picture.
Siberechts, born in Antwerp in 1627, was a member of the Guild of St Luke in Antwerp at the time this work was created. His early work is characterised by Italian landscapes. He is thought to have travelled to Italy in 1650. Siberechts lived in London from 1672 until the end of his life.
This work is signed and dated "J. Sieberechts 1649" lower right.
The owner purchased the work from a private collection in the 1980s.

Darstellung einer abendlichen Landschaft. Links befindet sich ein Hang, an dem ein Wasserfall hinabstürzt. Im Vordergrund eine am Waldrand befindliche Wiese, auf welcher Schafe weiden. Ein zum Flötenspiel tanzendes Hirtenpaar. Dahinter Schlucht, in welcher der Wasserfall entschwindet. Im Hintergrund Findlinge und sonnenbeschienene Landschaft zu erkennen. In dieser sind in der Ferne weitere Hirten erkennbar. Auf einem Hügel thront ein Haus. Die Szene wird von einer sich am rechten Bildrand emporschwingenden Eiche flankiert.
Siberechts, 1627 in Antwerpen geboren, wurde zum Entstehungszeitpunkt dieses Werkes Mitglied in der Lukasgilde von Antwerpen. Sein Frühwerk ist geprägt von italienischen Landschaftsdarstellungen. Eine Italienreise wird für 1650 vermutet. Von 1672 bis zu seinem Lebensende lebte Siberechts in London.
Dieses Werk ist rechts unten signiert und datiert "J. Sieberechts 1649".
Der Besitzer kaufte das Werk in den 1980er Jahren aus einer Privatsammlung.
