Sican-Lambayeque Silver Tweezers - Naylamp

Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Sican/Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. A pair of half-moon-shaped, high percentage silver (97%) tweezers with an anthropomorphic figure of the mythical Emperor Naylamp standing in repousse on both sides of the crescent-shaped handle above the crescent moon form below. He wears an impressive headdress, large earrings, a decorated belt and necklace, and holds two matching spears. The symmetry of the form is fantastic. Naylamp (also Naymlap, Nanlap, or Nylamp), the traditional founder of the Lambayeque dynasty is believed to have come from the south by sea and colonized the region before he allegedly sprouted wings and flying off into the sunset in a dramatic display of his magical powers. Size: 2.3" W x 2.75" H (5.8 cm x 7 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand; silver is 97% pure; 18.4 grams
