Sican Silver Tweezer - Crescent Moon & Naylamp
Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Sican / Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. Half moon shaped silver tweezers with an anthropomorphic visage - perhaps belonging to Naylamp - delineated in repousse on both sides of the crescent-shaped handle above the crescent moon form below. The tiny perforation above may have once held a headdress. Naylamp (also Naymlap, Nanlap, or Nylamp), the traditional founder of the Lambayeque dynasty is believed to have come from the south by sea and colonized the region before he allegedly sprouted wings and flying off into the sunset in a dramatic display of his magical powers. Size: 2.875" W x 2.125" H (7.3 cm x 5.4 cm); 4.875" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand. Weight: 18.1 grams. Silver quality: 97% silver.
