Sid Burns (1916-1979), "Bronco Buster Busted", 1979, bronze, ed. 20/24, 18 x 22 x 13.5"
For many years in his hometown of Laguna Beach, California, Sid Burns pursued his art as a hobby. As recognition came his way, he began to sculpt full time. In 1974, he sculpted Spooked and became an overnight sensation, winning many awards for this depiction of a really rough moment in the life of a cowboy. His bronze Border Raiders won the Bronze Medal at the Cowboy Hall Solon Borglum Memorial Sculpture Exhibition in 1975. "Western Art collectors have always applauded the authenticity of Sid Burns' work," Krakel said. "He was a western artist who knew his subject well. Despite the fact he never attended art school, he mastered the difficulties of the medium and kept his bronzes filled with explosive action and emotion."
