Sigmund Freud has signed this personal letter from 1923 in fountain pen. This lot contains two letters, both the letter Freud sent and the one he was responding to. The letter from Freud is in English and on his personal stationery, PROF. Dr. FREUD, WIEN IX., BERGGASSE 19, dated 25, XI, 23 (November 25, 1923). Signed with a large bold signature of Freud, and shows a little of his humor.

The letter from Freud states in full ":Dear Dr. Coriat, Many thanks for your kind lines. What you heard from Brill is true, at least partially. I am still on the road to health, but I have not arrived. So I have to be patient still. Yours sincerely, Freud.

The first letter was from Dr. Coriat and is in regards to hearing about a recent operation that Freud had undergone from their mutual friend Dr. Abraham Brill. Freud’s was a letter of thanks and assured his good health. Freud is the founder of psychoanalysis and his psychoanalytic movement is the basis for all modern psychological studies. Dr. Brill, who was mentioned in the letters, was one of Freud’s early followers and helped with early theory and studies behind human psychology. Freud is perhaps the most famous psychologist of all time, and although many of his theories have been disproved over time he was without a doubt the first person to study psychology and human behavior. It is impossible to study psychology without understanding Freud’s contributions to the field.

Freud’s letter measures 6” x 5” and Dr. Coriat’s measures 7” x 4”. Both letters are matted together, and the matting measures 8.5” x 11”.
