Signed Letter, Irish Writer James Joyce, 1931

[ translate ]

Autographed letter in ink sent by James Joyce on 6 September 1931 to "Michael Joyce, Esquire" of 53 Warwick Square, Victoria, London." Written on letterhead addressed "289 Campden Grove, Kensington, W, 8" Double sided letter withsignature, accompanied by portrait and postal cover. Text reads: "Dear Mr. Joyce, I thank you for your kind and considerate letter which is refreshing after my recent experience. The Frankfurter Zeitung and the translater seem tohave treated you with almost as scant courtesy as they have used toward myself. I am still, however, nearly as much in the dark as the persons in your story. Am I to understand from your letter that the translater obtained a copy of the Decemberissue of the London Mercury and translated your story without authorization from you? Or did you give him the issue and he has merely omitted to inform you of the publication in Germany? I, myself, learnt of the publication as you did, bychance. Sincerely yours, James Joyce" Good condition, reverse body of letter faded, set in wooden frame under glass, measures: 16" H x 17.5" W
