Signed Manuscript Quote, Frank Stanton

[ translate ]

Stanton, Frank L. SONGS FROM DIXIE LAND. Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, c. 1900. 12mo. Publisher's blue cloth stamped in gilt, with original dust-jacket (scarce in jacket.) ******** Clearly a treasured copy of this poetry book by Georgia's first poet laureate. The front endpaper is inscribed by Stanton with a 4-line excerpt from his "Mighty Like a Rose," presumably to a young recipient: "Sweetest little fellar / Everybody knows, / Dunno what to call him / But he's mighty like a Rose!" Signed Frank L. Stanton, Atlanta, Ga. August 3rd 1926. The half-title leaf contains poetry presumably by the early owner (recto/verso) and also with commentary on Stanton in the same hand to title verso, with clipping pasted to the endpaper verso, and a portrait of the author pasted to the verso of the dedication leaf. Aside from toning/offsetting from this portrait onto the adjacent contents leaf, the book and jacket are remarkably well-preserved. A truly unique copy.
Condition Report: Front flap of jacket with lower corner clipped, cloth binding excellent, contents clean with the exception of the inscriptions and clippings at front (mentioned in the description.) Very Good.
