Signed by G.E. Mathey and Elwell S. Otis. Mathey, a survivor the Battle of the Little Bighorn who had been the lieutenant in charge of the pack train, would later become a witness in the trial of Major Marcus A. Reno. Elwell Stephen Otis was a United States Army general who served in the American Civil War, Indian Wars, the Philippines late in the Spanish-American War and during the Philippine-American War. He campaigned in Montana in the aftermath of the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The present document acknowledges receipt of two sets of first sergeant chevrons and six water buckets.
Condition Report: Leaf repaired from reverse at fold, some toning and edgewear; unexamined out of frame.
