LOT 0016

Signed by Ray Bradbury, second draft

[ translate ]

Heading:
Author: Bradbury, Ray
Title: Something Wicked This Way Comes - Second Draft Screenplay
Place Published: Beverly Hills
Publisher:The Bryna Company
Date Published: [c. 1976]
Description:

[1] 1-13, [1], 14-113 leaves. Text on rectos only. Xeroxed screenplay. Comb-bound plain stiff-paper wrappers. Second draft.

Signed in blue ink by Ray Bradbury on title page. Second draft of a screenplay originally written in 1958 and intended as a directorial vehicle for Gene Kelly. Financing for the project never came, and Bradbury converted the screenplay into the novel published in 1962. It is unclear if the present lot is the second draft of the 1976 treatment, or the first version after the 1958 original, or indeed a later photocopy of either of those. In January 1973, Sam Peckinpah had been announced as director for the film, with a script written by Bradbury. By June 1976, Jack Clayton had replaced Peckinpah and the property was being developed by The Bryna Company, a film production company formed by Kirk Douglas. The film had an even longer and more complex production history, eventually being released by Walt Disney Pictures in 1983, directed by Clayton and produced by Kirk Douglas' son Peter.
Condition Report: Minor toning, light edgewear to wrappers; about near fine.
